NEW ORLEANS & ALL THAT JAZZ! LOUISIANA

First of three!
We had a wonderful day in New Orleans French Quarter. The sun shone despite a forecast of thunderstorms!

We started the day with cafe au lait and beignets (french hole less doughnuts smothered in icing sugar) at the Cafe du Monde - thanks for the recommendation Sally and Terry. I think everyone who visits New Orleans feels they have to go there, it amazed me how they make money by just selling coffee and doughnuts. (I have just googled how many calories in each beignet - 527 - goodness me!)

We then tried to walk the calories off by doing nearly every street, some twice.

For a couple who often say we don't like cities, we really enjoyed ourselves. The buildings were pretty and still decorated from Mardi Gras, pity we missed it. There was music everywhere, tons of tacky shops, lovely cathedral, a great French market with strange things to eat and cook with. Roy was tempted by the alligator burger but I dissuaded him!
We did try Jambalaya - not again we both said - bit hot!

As the evening arrived Bourbon Street became more lively and as we left on the ferry a concert was just starting on the banks of the Mississippi - end of a perfect day again.
