Today we found the "real Florida" at Myakka River State Park. One of Florida's oldest, largest and most diverse natural areas. The Myakka River flows through 58 sq. miles of wetlands, prairies, hammocks and pinelands. A birders paradise - we saw Glossy Ibis,Tri-colored Heron, Little Blue Heron, Great Blue Heron, White Egret, Little Egret, Black Vulture, Turkey Vulture, Blue Winged Teal,  American White Pelicans, Lesser Yellowlegs, Black Necked Stilts, Sanhill Cranes etc. We even saw some wild boar through the binoculars.

We explored the treetops on Myakka's canopy walkway and climbed the 70-foot tower for a stunning view of wetlands, forest and prairie, then wandered round the nature trails. Peace at last!
