PEARL HARBOR, CIRCLE ISLAND & POLYNESIAN CULTURAL CENTER

OH MY! What a day we had yesterday. Firstly I forgot to say where we are so we are spending 3 nights in Oahu/Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel then 3 nights in Big Island/ King Kamehamehas Kona Beach Hotel and 5 nights in Maui/Kaanapali Beach Hotel. So back to yesterday - we went on a tour from 7-15am till 10-30 pm. Pearl Harbor, Circle Island and Polynesian Cultural Center. Only 10 of us and the guide, Alex was superb. We were flooded with knowledge!
It was very moving at Pearl harbor, the film we saw showing live footage of the bombing had me in tears and going over to USS Arizona was a memorable experience.
We visited Dole Pineapple plantation, had pinapple icecream, now know how to peel one and was amazed how low the plants grow. All planted and picked by hand. We saw surfers on the North shore then at the lunch spot I had a near death experience - I was eating some melon and the juice went down my wind pipe, I could'nt breathe properly, gasping and so painful. Fortunately Dennis, a man from Virginia who we had met up with and his wife performed the good old Heimlich manoever and finally I could breathe easier even though there was no food stuck. Panic over we arrived at the Polynesian Cultural Center - what an awesome time we had. We experienced Samoa, Tahitia, Hawaii, Tonga, Fiji and Aotearoa Island cultures. Had an Island Feast, the best buffet we have ever experienced and finally attended the evening show "Ha - Breath of Life" - a colourful amazing extravaganza of music and dance. Wonderful! Must go now to have another fun packed day, have left Roy by the pool - who knows who he may be chatting to! Till next time Aloha !
