Up,
sort of early for us and drove the half an hour to Gros Ventre and
rewarded with five moose. Two bulls, one so old he was limping and a
young bull together with three lady mooses!
Had
a walk round the campsite (closed for the season much t our
annoyance) where these moose roam enjoying snapping the pics. Drove
on to Kelly and the great coffee shop there where we have visited
each time we have been to the Tetons. She's a great girl, lives here
and gave us lots of up to date gossip and information on the area.

Later
in the day drove on the Moose-Wilson road, the worst rough road I
have ever been on! But everyone risks it because of – I quote from
the Teton magazine - “Would you believe that bears consume up to
Had a super 7 mile hike up to and round Phelps Lake., calories a day
in the fall? This feeding frenzy is called “hyperphagia”. Bears
put on weight in fall to survive winter hibernation. Hawthorne and
chokecherry bushes line the Moose-Wilson Road providing prime habitat
for both black and grizzly bears.”
So
at the start of our trail there were two fresh loads of bear scat and
having read this I said to Roy, I did hope that I was not going to be
part of the 20,000 calories that bear needed! Typical – no bear!
But I have to say I was a little more apprehensive doing the hike
especially after I had just had a comment on Facebook from a friend
who said she would not dare do the hikes for fear of bears!
