MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS CAMPGROUND |
MAMMOTH ELK |
So
once again and probably the last time we said another farewell to
Terry and Sally, they arrived in Bozeman the day after us, so we
spent another evening with them and Terry treated us to peanut butter
and chocolate Quesadillas – yummy!
We
drove into Yellowstone via Gardiner, every time I enter this
beautiful park I feel as if I am entering a magical Garden of Eden,
it is my favourite park of all.
WARNING
– PHOTO OVERLOAD WITH THE NEXT SET OF BLOGS WHILE IN YELLOWSTONE!
We
headed straight to Mammoth Hot Springs and thankfully got a campsite
at the national park site, first come first served, we have in the
past had to go back to Gardiner for the night and come back early to
bag a site. The Gods were with us this time!
Even
the sun was shining and although we had coats on it was certainly
warmer than of late. We had a bison almost in the campground, have
never seen them here before, its usually full of Elk. The Elk still
reigned supreme up in the town.
Had
a lovely afternoon re-visiting the Mammoth Hot Springs terraces.
Water
heated deep underground, rises to the surface. As it rises the water
percolates through buried limestone, dissolving calcium carbonate.
Above ground, the hot water deposits the calcium carbonate, building
travertine terraces.
This
is a changing landscape, far different from our last visits – we
glimpse a moment in time!
