After
a hazy start, the skies cleared to give a scorching day, we spent a
lovely couple of hours across the road from the campsite walking
along the Gardner River to Boiling River, which was just that.
Discharge from Mammoth Hots Springs comes underground into the Garner
River. The water was so hot you could not hold your hand in it!
We
did not, like others, bathe in the hot springs area. Kind of got put
off when the sign said you could get meningitis or Legionnaires
disease from the organisms in the water, however I'm sure its a risk
in all the other hot springs we have been in!
Saw
a snake on the trail, it was about three feet long, Roy thinks it was
a Bull snake.

We left at 4pm to go
across to Hayden Valley for our last look for wildlife, hoping to see
more wolves, no wolves..... but grizzlies....Oh Yes!!
At Dunraven Pass we saw
the cinnamon Grizzly sow and her big cub – absolutely amazing and
awesome and fabulous!
We moved just a few
miles and spotted a big grizzly boar up on the hillside! Can life get
any better.
On the way to Hayden we
stopped at the side of the road, wound down the window and I could
almost touch the big bull Elk feeding.
Hayden however had
nothing – strange, but we did see a bald eagle sat at the side of
the river and some pretty views as the sun set.
A magnificent end to
our time here in gorgeous Yellowstone - memories to last a lifetime,
my senses are overwhelmed with the beauty of this place.
