WAWA - ONTARIO

Next stop Wawa - only 50 miles away. This started out the coldest day yet at 7oC with some sprinkles but improved as the clouds cleared and the sun shone, so we had a walk to discover downtown Wawa.

The first Wawa Goose was erected in 1960 to commemorate the completion of the last link of the Trans Canada Highway. The current Goose has been on site since 1963.
Wawa sits on an ancient portage route and its name according to First Nations comes from wa-wa-gonk which translates to "place of clear water" relating to Wawa Lake.
