PORTLAND TO LA GRANDE, OREGON

We had two fabulous days spent with Cliff and Jane, friends we met in Alaska and have kept in touch with. Cliff told us the most wonderful stories about life on a farm, horses, explained all about hunting and so much more, we laughed and talked endlessly. They were the most wonderful hosts and we hope they will come to UK so we can return the hospitality.

Deschutes River at Maupin

Mt Hood

This is the road where Roy got out of the truck to use the toilet and did not put
the brake on......there was I rolling down the road in the passenger seat!
This is the second time he had done this!

Heading to Yellowstone, we drove the quiet roads via Government Camp, Maupin, Shaniko, Antelope and stopped to see John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, Clarno Unit which was interesting and had some great fossils.
Then to Fossil, Cliff's old school town and south to Service Creek then followed the John Day River to Spray along a pretty road. Our camp site was at the side of the river, just us for $12 and generator on as long as we liked.

While Roy was outside he called me out to listen to some church bells but I think they were mechanical as they were playing a tune and didn't sound like bell ringing, but still lovely.

Next day we continued to La Grande via the beautiful Dale - Ukiah scenic corridor, where we seemed to be the only travellers. The sun continued to shine and temp around 23oC. The photos below were taken along the John Day River and the Ukiah - Dale scenic corridor - so pretty!
We are in La Grande mainly so Roy can get a new hub or something like that for the trailer.

half a red tailed hawk! - why can't they fly slower?
