A DAY OF GEYSERS AND A GRAND CANYON OF YELLOWSTONE

MYSTIC POOL

We are re-visiting places we have seen in the past as this is probably the last time we will see Yellowstone – sob, sob!
So on Saturday we drove to Norris Geyser Basin, this strange beautiful place is on the edge of a giant volcano, the Yellowstone Volcano – one of the largest on earth. This is a world of heat and gases, where microorganisms live in such massive numbers they add colour to the landscape.

Such an amazing experience to walk both Back Basin and Porcelain Basin.

STEAMBOAT GEYSER

On to Midway Geyser Basin, mainly to see Grand Prismatic Spring, sadly the wind was blowing the steam so much we did not see it in all its splendour, but we had seen it before! It was still stunning and mysterious.

And so to the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, again a repeat visit and we seemed to have picked the same time of day as the sun was just in the wrong place as my photos were exactly the same – they seem to look like a painting! Such wonderful views though.

The end of the day found us at Hayden Valley – renowned for its evening wildlife. Sure enough there were the groups of folk with their super scopes. We talked with a young couple from Devon who come every year and they were keen to show us what they had in their scope.....two wolves! Fantastic watching them, one ran down the hill to a bison and we thought it was going to attack but the bison faced it then ran off. We tracked them along the valley, they were about a mile away so my photos do not do them justice but at least I got something! The couple left and moved in the direction of the wolves and we went the other way but caught up with them on our way back and at last my first view of a bear!!! Now for those don't know me, my passion is bears, black or grizzly – I just love them. This was our first view of one this visit, we had missed a couple of bear jams during the day but hey had gone by the time we got to the spot. So this was superb even though he was about a mile and half away – a big grizzly just ended the perfect day!

THE TWO WOLVES AGAIN - THESE PHOTOS ARE VERY GRAINY BUT THEY WERE A LONG WAY AWAY!
