JOHN DAY FOSSIL BEDS NATIONAL MONUMENT/PAINTED HILLS UNIT

Sunday 4th May and sadly we parted company from Terry and Sally. We have spent twelve superb days, sharing good conversation, great food and exceptional scenery, we will miss them. But perhaps if we go fast and they go slow we may meet again near the Oregon coast!
We headed east driving the Journey Through Time Scenic byway, stopping to visit the John Day Fossil National Monument/Painted Hills section. We managed to walk a couple of short trails between sun and short showers. We only scratched the surface of this national monument – under the hills and valleys of eastern Oregon is one of the richest fossil beds on Earth. Painted Hills is a photographer's delight!
