SUNRISE AREA AT MOUNT RAINIER NATIONAL PARK

Campsites at the 4500 ft high White River near Sunrise were first come, first served, so we felt optimist as we headed there that we would get a site – mistake – glorious day 25oC, weekend! So we were not hopeful as the Ranger said there were only a few sites left and we were quite big! We went round loop A and C then as a last resort looked up B loop and there was a small pull through. Not a pull through for us though, Roy shunted and backed and after about half an hour we were in!! What a driver my man is - a couple walking past said A+ for that – there was no way he could have got in there! Hope we get out – still that's another day.

THESE PHOTOS DON'T REALLY SHOW HOW DIFFICULT IT WAS TO GET INTO BUT EASY PEASY TO LEAVE

We drove the ten miles up to Sunrise, at 6400 ft, and planned which walks we would do. Mt. Rainier looked amazing in the late afternoon sun but as the name suggests this area is best at sunrise – we had contemplated getting up to see it at sunrise but Ranger lady said we would have to be at Sunrise Point by 5-15 – I don't think so.
