PADRE ISLAND NEAR CORPUS CHRISTI. TEXAS

A Crested Caracara

We stopped overnight at Choke Canyon State Park and were pleased to
spot an Armadillo wandering past our trailer as we ate dinner. The light
was poor and the photographer even worse but at least I got to see a live
one - the only ones we have seen were road kill.

A blurred Armadillo!
Heading south we reached Padre Island near Corpus Christi on the Gulf of Mexico.
Eastertime so we planned to get a site early on Maundy Thursday to beat the rush.

Approaching Corpus Christi, we were not impressed by a skyline full
of oil refineries, but across the bridge was another world.

Twin Laughing Gulls - not laughing, you have no idea how long I tried to get a video of them laughing, so funny!

Great Blue Heron - posing!

Located along the south Texas coast, Padre Island National Seashore protects
the longest undeveloped stretch of barrier island in the world. 70 miles of sand-and-shell beaches, picturesque windswept dunes, endless grasslands, tidal flats teeming with life. The seashore is the most important U.S. nesting beach for endangered Kemp's ridley sea turtles. Of course, we are a month early, they come ashore April to July to lay their eggs. We live in hopes that one might have got her dates wrong!

Our beautiful campsite sat on the edge of the dunes overlooking the Gulf of Mexico and the beach a few steps away. We spent our days birdwatching, beachcombing, sunbathing, paddling in the Gulf and hiking.

Brown Pelicans by the hundreds

We drove 15 miles of the 60 mile sand road heading to Mexico

Some Cool Dude I found on the beach - or maybe its a Beach Bum!

Easter Day - and no egg! But a suprise pressie hidden in the case revealed two Cadburys Creme eggs and two MaltEaster Bunnies. Thank you John & Angie xx.  Roy, true to form, had his bunny eaten before he got out of bed!
