We are staying at Palmetto for 3 nights so drove into Sarasota today, traffic a nightmare, then on to Longboat Key. We were both disappointed, while there were many beaches the whole island was wall to wall hotels, condos and shops. Sarasota has recognised that they have built in every possible place and have lost valuable wetland area - but too late, methinks, to resolve the problem.
Despite my moan, we did have a lovely day having lunch on the beach, paddling in the Gulf, watching the birds and playing at King Canute with the waves. Icecream time was slightly fraught, an American woman with her two rude children seemed to have a panic attack in the shop. Why do some of the children not use the words please and thankyou? If my child had spoken to me in that way he would have been out of the shop so quick with no icecream!
Our weather is superb 28oC most days and not too humid!
And with legs rattled too!
