HELLO BAJA CALIFORNIA

We made it! Drove through the border at Tecate with no problem at all, small border crossing and a really fun man who did the paperwork and we were in! THEN we got on the wrong roads, really bad signs, and somehow finished on the outskirts of Tijuana – not where we wanted to be, but at least we got to see the suburbs of Tijuana and finally got on the right road. Slow going mountain roads saw us getting later and later – darkness fell, and they say don’t travel in the dark – but Jamie, bless him – got out twice to ask directions and finally we found it. Totally off the beaten track but quite busy. Time for wine and beer to celebrate arriving in Mexico!

The wall to keep us in Mexico!
The northern Baja peninsular has been mountainous but as we moved further south the desert became more prominent with endless, varied cactus. We went through 3 military checkpoints with no checks then the fourth, we all had to get out of the vehicle and they checked inside the truck and in all the cupboards in the trailer, then wished us a happy vacation. They have all been real friendly even though they don’t speak English much and we are getting by with smiles, gracias and hola!
