THE WAVE - WE'RE IN! - UTAH

We were at the Kanab Field office by 8-30am, looking good, just one other couple, filled our application in and waited for 9am. Then another woman came in, then two Japanese men! Not good.
So at 9am she held the draw as there were more than 10 applicants. The young couple we had been talking to were from Los Angeles and she had tried 4 years to get a place on line. They were No 1, we were No 2 then there were 3 other numbers. First number out was No 1, pleased they got a place, then whoopee No. 2 next one drawn. One more number was drawn and it was one of the Japanese men and that filled the allocation as he had 6 people on his application. So 7 folks were disappointed.

We paid our $14 got our map of sorts and left very happy!
This map has 6 photos to find your way to the Wave and 6 to get out and compass readings, it says for experienced hikers and here was I thinking it was a 3 mile hike in to see the Wave and back out - a doddle! We shall see.
this is the map we have to follow to find the Wave

We spent the afternoon wandering round Pipe Spring National Monument, we now know all about the Mormons and Paiute Indians. They showed a video which gave a lot of information about the polygamous Mormons, how they drove out the Paiutes and left them to die by building a ranch over the main spring. Interesting to hear how the Mormons thought they were going to take over the world with their religion. They sure got a raw deal those Indians.

  1. So one man was allowed to register for six people? that doesn't seem fair...other people actually turned up and they didn't get a place and he turned up to represent 6 people and all his people who were probably still in bed got a place!

Lets see if this comment works!

  2. Six is the maximum you can enter on a form, what was so annoying - the two Japanese men were together and we think they duplicated their names on each form. Rules say you will be disqualified if you do this and at the draw the Ranger said about it but no one owned up.Then on the hike there were only 5 in their group so they wasted a place.
